IHS represented at PMEA Region II Band Festival

Armagh, PA – From March 6 to 8, the halls of United High School were filled with the stirring sounds of brass, woodwinds, and percussion as talented student musicians gathered for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Region 2 Band Festival. The annual event brought together top high school musicians from across the region for three days of intensive rehearsals and an inspiring final concert under the direction of esteemed guest conductor Dr. Brittan Braddock.

Dr. Braddock, known for her dynamic leadership and commitment to musical education, led the ensemble through a diverse and challenging repertoire that showcased both traditional and contemporary compositions. The program included English Folksong Suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams, AYO by Katahj Copley, The Rusty Bucket by Carol Brittin Chambers, Dum Spiro Spero by Chris Pilsner, and two patriotic selections—The Star-Spangled Banner, arranged by Jack Stamp, and Salute to PMEA by A.D. Davenport.

The festival provided a valuable opportunity for young musicians to refine their skills, collaborate with peers, and learn from an accomplished conductor. Students spent hours perfecting their performance, culminating in a grand concert that drew an enthusiastic audience of family members, educators, and community supporters.

IHS was well represented by Sam Knepper, Abigail Jozefowicz, Gavin Dunmyer, and Lily Adams.  All successfully auditioned into this ensemble a few weeks ago when IHS was the host of the PMEA District III Band Festival.  Lily was one of eight bass clarinetists, Gavin was one of sixteen french horns, Sam and Abigail were two of the sixteen trumpets.  Congrats on a fantastic festival!

United High School faculty and staff, along with PMEA organizers, played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the festival, providing a welcoming environment and seamless coordination. The event not only celebrated musical excellence but also reinforced the importance of arts education in schools.

As the final notes of the concert rang out, the audience erupted into applause, acknowledging the hard work and talent of both the students and their conductor. The PMEA Region 2 Band Festival once again proved to be an unforgettable experience, inspiring the next generation of musicians and strengthening the bond of community through music.
